How much do you know about color masterbatches?
Masterbatch is a special colorant for polymer materials, and it is also known as pigment preparation. The masterbatch should be mixed with the raw material in a proportion, after melting, the plastic material will convert to the color of the masterbatch. The masterbatch has three basic parts in structure: pigment, carrier, and additives.
1. Pigment
The pigment can be divided into inorganic and organic pigments.
2. Carrier
The carrier is the matrix of the masterbatch. Generally, the same material as the product is often used as the carrier, so that the compatibility of the two is better.
3. Dispersant
The main function of the dispersant is to promote the uniform dispersion of the pigment on the carrier, like stearate.
4. Additive
Additives such as flame-retardant, antistatic, and anti-oxidant should be added accordingly.
At present, some medical-grade masterbatches have high safety and health requirements. These masterbatches are mainly used in medical equipment and appliances and food-related products, it requires strict safety level and also it needs qualified safety certification, biocompatibility test report as the basis for the coming medical testing.
