The shrinkage of the plastic products mainly refers to the surface shrinkage of the product during the cooling process, sometime you will experience deep dents on the product surface. As a soft plastic material, TPE shrinks more obvious than other hard materials, What causes the shrinkage of TPE products and how to solve them?

 

Reasons for shrinkage issue of TPE product:

1.     Injection molding (pressure, holing time, mold temperature and cooling time).

2.     Product structure (product wall thickness)

3.     Mold manufacturing (gate size, runners)

4.     Material properties (Shrinkage rate)

 

 

Solutions for shrinkage issue of TPE products:

1.     Increase the injection pressure and holing time of the injection molding machine to extend the injection time. For TPE materials with different properties, it is better to combine its physical properties of the materials to adjust the machine accordingly.

2.     Increasing the injection speed of the injection machine can speed the filling of the mold cavity and eliminate most of the shrinkage defects.

3.     For product with thin wall structure, the mold temperature should be increased to ensure the flow of the melted material. For product with thick wall structure, the mold temperature should be adjusted to a low level to accelerate the solidification of the surface of the product.

4.     Properly increase the cooling time. By extending the cooling time of the product and maintain a stable production cycle, shrinkage problem can be reduced at a certain extent.
