P20 mould steel
P20 is currently one of the most widely used mould steel, it has the advantages of cheap price, good stability and easy processing. What are the properties of P20 steel as the most adoptable injection mold steel?
1. Basic property
Through pre-hardening treatment, P20 steel can reach the hardness of 30-36HRC, can be directly used for mold manufacturing.
2. Application
P20 steel has the property of good dimensional stability, can fulfill most of the mold processing needs, and its service life can reach half million shots.
3. Hardening treatment
To improve the service of the P20 injection mold, the pre-hardened steel can be hardened by quenching and low-temperature tempering. First, quenching the P20 steel at 500-600 degrees for 2-4hours, then held at 850-880degrees for at least 2 hours, cooled to 50-100 degrees in cooling oi and then removed it and put it in air. The hardness of P20 can reach 50-52HRC after quenching. To prevent the cracking, the quenched P20 material needs to be tempered immediately at a low temperature of 200 degrees, and the hardness can be kept at 48HRC.
4. Nitriding treatment
Nitriding treatment can get high hardness surface layer, the hardness of P20 steel after nitriding can reach 57-60HRC, and the injection mold made of nitriding P20 can last for 1 million shots. The nitriding layer has a smooth surface which can facilitates the demolding process, and enhance the alkali corrosion effect.
