The application of modified PP in the automotive industry
Polypropylene (PP) is a thermoplastic material with good mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and processability. It has the advantages of low density and recyclability and is widely used in the automotive industry.
Modified polypropylene is made by adding plasticizers, and reinforcing agents to ordinary polypropylene to give it specific properties to meet the requirements of automotive parts.
The main application of modified polypropylene in the automotive industry includes the following:
1. Exterior parts. Modified PP is one of the main materials for automotive exterior parts, used to make bumpers mudguards, and wheel covers. Modified PP has good weather resistance, corrosion resistance, and impact resistance, which can meet the requirements of automotive exterior parts.
2. Interior parts. Modified PP is also used to make automotive interior parts, such as steering wheels, dashboards, and door panels. Modified PP has good mechanical properties, and processability to win the application.
3. Powertrain components. Modified PP is used to make automotive powertrain components, such as fuel tanks, water tanks, fan blades, and intake manifolds.
4. Other components. Modified PP is the raw material for making battery cases, wire harness tubes, and headlamp covers.
With the development of a lightweight, energy-saving concept in automotive industry, the application of modified PP in the automotive will become more extensive.
