What are the requirements for injection mold steel?
Mold steel is an important issue in injection mold design and manufacturing, which directly affects the service life of the mold and the molding quality and processing cost of the product.
The working condition of the injection mold is around 200℃, and in the working state, the influence of working pressure on the mold should be considered, also the temperature. According to the analysis of the usage conditions and processing methods of injection molds, the performance requirements of injection mold steel can be summarized as follows:
1. Sufficient surface hardness and wear resistance
The hardness of the plastic mold is usually below 60HRC. The heat-treated mold steel can provide sufficient surface hardness to ensure that the mold has sufficient rigidity. The injection mold needs to withstand high pressure and friction during the injection molding process, and it is necessary to ensure that the mold maintains dimensional stability in the work, to ensure that the mold has a longer service life. The wear resistance of injection molds mainly depends on the chemical composition and heat treatment of the steel.
2. Good machining performance
It is necessary to choose the material which is easy to cut and machine to meet the production accuracy. Generally, medium carbon steel and medium carbon alloy steel are most popular in the injection mold industry.
3. Excellent polishing performance
The suitable steel material should be selected by the actual surface treatment requirements of the product.
4. Good thermal stability
The shape of the molded plastic parts is complex and difficult to process after quenching, therefore, it is necessary to choose good thermally stable steel to make the expansion coefficient of mold steel smaller after heat treatment, and the product size should remain the same under the temperature changes.
5. Corrosion resistance
For some plastic raw materials, it is necessary to consider the application of steel with corrosion resistance to achieve a better quality of plastic parts.
