POM, normally known as polyoxymethylene, is a high-density polymer with good physical, mechanical and chemical properties. As one of the common engineering plastics, the main reason why POM is widely known is its self-lubricity and friction resistance, Due to this unique advantage, POM is currently the most accepted raw material for plastic gear products in different industries.

 

Except to self-lubricity, POM’s good high temperature resistance and low temperature creep resistance have also great expanded the scale of the application of POM in current industries, However, its poor weather resistance is where we should notice, don’t exposure the POM product to ultraviolet light, otherwise, the mechanical properties will be reduced.

 

In the processing of related injection molds, Special attention should be paid to the material selection of the mold cavity, After POM melts, it will produce some corrosive gas. If softer material are selected, the cavity will be corrode under the high temperature of the molding machine, which will affect the quality of the product as well. Here, for molds with high production demands, we suggest using hard material or stainless steel as the mold steel, which can extend the service life of the mold and reduce the maintenance cost of the mold.
