Mold Installation and Adjustment on an Injection Molding Machine

23-01-2025

Mold installation and adjustment is a crucial step in the injection molding that directly affects product quality and production efficiency. This article will detail the key steps and precautions involved in this process.

1. Mold Preparation

Clean the Mold: Ensure the mold surface is clean, free of impurities, oil, and other contaminants to avoid affecting product quality.

Inspect the Mold: Carefully inspect all mold components for completeness and damage. Verify that mold cavity dimensions, cooling channels, and other specifications meet requirements.

Lubricate the Mold: Lubricate the mold's moving parts to reduce friction and extend mold life.

2. Injection Machine Preparation

Inspect the Injection Machine: Inspect all components of the injection machine for normal operation, including oil circuits, electrical circuits, and heating systems.

Adjust the Nozzle: Adjust the nozzle size according to the mold gate size to ensure that the molten plastic can fill the mold cavity smoothly.

Set Parameters: Set process parameters such as temperature, pressure, injection speed, and holding time-based on the plastic type and product requirements.

3. Mold Installation

Positioning: Accurately position the mold between the fixed and moving plates of the injection machine, ensuring that the mold centerline aligns with the injection machine centerline.

Fixing: Securely fasten the mold to the injection machine using bolts to prevent mold displacement during the injection process.

Closing the Mold: Slowly close the mold and check if the mold cavity is centered and there are no interference issues.

4. Mold Adjustment

Clamping Force Adjustment: Adjust the clamping force to ensure the mold cavity is fully closed and there is a slight gap.

Gate Location Adjustment: Adjust the gate location to ensure that the molten plastic fills the mold cavity evenly, avoiding defects such as shrinkage and flash.

Cooling Water Circuit Adjustment: Adjust the cooling water circuit to ensure uniform temperature throughout the mold and accelerate cooling.

5. Trial Production

Low-Speed Trial: Begin with a low injection speed for trial production, observe product quality, and make minor adjustments to process parameters.

Gradually Increase Speed: Gradually increase the injection speed until optimal production efficiency is achieved.

Inspect Products: Inspect products for dimensions, appearance, weight, and other requirements. Analyze any defects, identify the causes, and take appropriate corrective measures.
